Though the movie received average reviews from the mass and the media, Sakkarakatti has now gone ahead to run 50-days. The good news is that the daddy Thanu has roped in his son Kalaprabhu to do another movie for his Kalaipuli International.

‘Sakkarakatti’ laurels overseas

Gained a spectacular opening, thanks to the opera composed by AR Rahman, ‘Sakkarakatti’ is now attaining laurels beyond the four seas. The usual speculations rage high abroad for flicks starring Rajinikanth or Kamal Haasan. If not otherwise movies directed by the likes of Shankar, Mani Ratnam gains an overseas market, for they are sure to enthrall the audience with their magnum opus.
The habitual occurrence has been renovated for ‘Sakkarakatti’ as the movie starring an all new cast in the lead has bagged a red carpet entry for the first time in history. Erstwhile, about 32 prints had been distributed to be screened abroad. Later, more prints were dealt to meet the demand.
Elated by the news Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu is on a high spirit. He preens on the fact that this is the first time a movie starring debutants, which was directed by a first time director has been acclaimed so wide.
Sakkarakatti’s feat has been made possible by a significant reason which is the music composed by AR Rahman who came out with a spectacular show that pepped up the movie.

Sakkarakkatti: Star kids make debut but don’t shine (Tamil movie review - Rating **)

“Sakkarakkatti”; Cast: Shantanu, Ishita Sharma, Vedhika; Music: A.R. Rahman; Director: Kala Prabhu; Rating: **Launch vehicle for two star children, “Sakkarakkatti” is a movie without surprises.
Kala Prabhu, son of south Indian movie mogul S. Thanu, has created a huge extravaganza painted appropriately on the big-screen canvas with a flourish by cinematographer Andrew.
Despite a placid story, casual script and conspicuously absent zing in the tale’s tail, the movie entertains.
It is a boy-meets-girl-and-three-is-a-crowd love triangle between a city slicker Yuvraj (Shantanu, son of K. Bhagyaraj), Deepali (Ishita Sharma) and Reema (Vedhika) with an “all is well that ends well” kind of climax.
Obviously sure of Shantanu’s doubtful prowess in the departments of melodramatic close-ups and hysterical histrionics, Prabhu has cleverly avoided those.
Instead, he has supplanted them with college capers bound to trigger claps galore.
Rahman’s songs carry the film and are catchy.

Will Sakkarakatti release this Friday?

Leading producer Kalaipuli .S.Dhanu had said that if his film gets censored on Monday (September 22), it will positively get released on Friday (Sep 26).
However the film is yet to be censored and it looks like it is making way for Sun Pictures Kathalil Vizhuenthen, which has booked all the screens. Dhanu and Kalanithi Maran are now best of friends due to recent political happenings, and obviously they did not want to clash.
Remember Kathalil Vizhuenthen has the hit songNakku Mukka…, which is being aggressively promoted by Sun TV. At the same time Sakkarakattihas the chartbuster Taxi, Taxi…, which Sun has the satellite rights and it makes sense for Dhanu to hold back the release as they are sure to promote its music.
The film is the launch pad of K Bhagyaraj's son Shaanthanu, and Dhanu's son Kala Prabhu as director. The buzz around the film is positive especially after the "Taxi, Taxi…" song tuned by A.R Rahman became a chartbuster.
Shaanthanu is pitted against two hot girls Vedika and Ishita in the film which is a" youthful musical entertainer", according to its director Kala Prabhu.
For a film with newcomers, Dhanu has been able to sell the film to distributors at a high rate on the strength of Rahman's music. Sakkarakattiwill take a super opening if it gets a solo release.

Sakkarakatti's technical brilliance

Kala Prabhu, son of noted film producer Kalaipuli S. Dhanu is coming up with his first directorial venture in the form of 'Sakkarakatti'. The film introduces Shantanoo, son of veteran director – actor K. Bhagayaraj as hero.

An interesting aspect of this film is that the technical part has been done with tremendous care to live up to the musical brilliance of A. R. Rahman. The film has the creative energy of two cinematographers in the form of Raja and Andrew. Andrew worked as the cinematographer but unfortunately had to leave because of a prior commitment with a Hindi film. This brought cinematographer Raja into the picture. Reports suggest that the director is happy with the efforts of Raja.

However, Kala Prabhu has a very high opinion of Andrew. 'He will fill the void created by the untimely demise of Jeeva' said Kala Prabhu. A comparison with Jeeva when it comes to cinematography is considered a very great achievement.

Jackie who worked as the art director of 'Paruthiveeran' and 'Poi' has worked for 'Sakkarakatti' as well. He is known to be a creative person who has the ability to sketch out stunning designs as soon as the 'feel' of the scene is described by the director. Truly a lovely talent.

'Sakkarakatti' is expected to be loaded with Computer Generated Imagery and all technical facets have come out very well. The film releases in September.
