Kamal locks lips again

After passionately kissing Rani Mukerji in Hey Ram, he will be smooching Shriya Saran in the upcoming Marmayogi, reports Prithwish Ganguly.

Kamal Haasan’s forthcoming film Marmayogi is expected to have a steamy attraction for the fans of this iconic South superstar. Rumours are doing the rounds that the movie will see Kamal lip-locking with Shriya Saran who plays his wife.

Marmayogi will have two heroines — Trisha, who has already been confirmed, will play the main lead and Shriya will play an extended cameo and make an appearance only when Kamal goes into flashback mode.
Shriya has so far never kissed in any film while Kamal’s passionate lip-lock with Rani Mukerji in the period film Hey Ram in 2000, raised many eyebrows. In the film, Rani played his wife who is raped and killed during riots in Kolkata after India’s independence. Kamal then sets out to kill Mahatma Gandhi who he feels is responsible for all the problems happening in the country.
“The film is expected to narrate the story of a person who rises up against all evils to protect the ones he loves. That Trisha is in the film is confirmed and Shriya has been contacted to play the second lead. She will play Kamal’s wife who dies early in the film,” says an insider.
The source adds, “The film will see Kamal recount his tragic past to someone and narrate his relationship with his wife and in this part of the film there is a passionate kissing scene between Kamal and his wife (Shriya Saran).”
Rumours are rife that the film could be an adaptation of the hit Mel Gibson movie Brave Heart in which the hero’s wife is killed by oppressive colonial rulers. Mel revives from his tragedy only to revolt against the rulers and what follows is a gory bloodbath in repeated wars.
We contacted Shriya told us, “I have been approached to be a part of the film but I haven’t gone through the script thoroughly to tell you whether a scene like that exists.”
Kamal Haasan will be directing the film which will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

Hattrick for Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan with Jodha Akbar ?

Will Jodha Akbar / Jodhaa Akbar prove third time lucky in openings for Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai and the superman Hrithik Roshan. The magical duo has already proved their magic in Dhoom 2 .

Aishwarya Rai ’s great run started with Guru opposite now husband Abhishek Bachchan and continued with Dhoom 2 where she lip-locked opposite Bollywood hunk Hrithik. And again with Jodha Akbar, can Aishwarya prove her worth ! Her Hollywood movies Pink Panther 2 and Singularity are still in post production but we doubt if the beauty queen needs to go back to Hollywood any more.

Hrithik Roshan has been magical right from his first movie Kaho Na Pyar Hain in his home production (Papa Rakesh Roshan ’s). And could deliver box office magic only in home productions which included science fantasy Koi Mil Gaya and sequel Krrish. But Hrithik has now three back to back Bollywood hits and much like Akshay Kumar and Shahrukh Khan, he is among the most dependable stars today.

But due credit for Jodha Akbar goes to the Oscar nominated director Ashutosh Gowarikar for this epic movie. Not all historical movies work well in Bollywood as proved by Umrao Jaan ( Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan) and Mangal Pandey [corrected: thanks natalia] (Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee).

Jodhaa Akbar already earned Rs. 25 crores over the weekend all over India and is doing great abroad. The movie started slow but is already picking up in box office numbers. The controversies in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are still on. But as we have seen in the past, controversies help the movies to stay in the headlines and help box office statistics. Question remains if it can recover the huge investment and be declared a hit.
