“I don’t believe in perfection, but in excellence,’’ said actor Kamal Haasan.

Kamal Haasan said this while interacting with media here on Monday after attending a promotion programme of his latest film ‘Dasavatharam’ in which he acted in ten roles.

Kamal said that the shooting team of the film had to spend one or two days extra to shoot the combination scenes of Govind (hero played by Kamal) and other characters played by him.

“We had to spent one or two days exclusively for the rehearsal. It took two years to complete the project,’’ he said.

Asked about the theme of the film, Kamal said that there was no story first. “I was given the ten-role idea first and I felt it was interesting. The story came later. I tried my best for maximum perfection. A good film cannot be made only with good story, but needs technical support also,’’ Kamal said.

About the box office collection, he said that there was no such an initial pulling for any film in Tamil Nadu before. “I have not seen or heard about such a huge collection in my career,’’ he said. Film director K S Ravikumar said that the project cost Rs 55 crore. Asked about his beard, Kamal said that it was for his new film Marmayogi.

“Marmayogi’ is being shot digitally with technicians from abroad,’’ he said. Asked about the `bullet curing cancer’ incident in the film, Kamal said he got the idea from MGR’s life. ``It was not just a fabricated one.

When MGR was shot in the neck, it was feared that it would affect his vocal cords,’’ Kamal Haasan said. Reacting to the ongoing dispute in film organisations in Malayalam industry, Kamal said: “Film is greater than organisation. I am a fan of Malayalam films and I learnt a lot from Malayalam films.’’

MGR inspired Kamal with bullet tale

The idea of `bullet curing cancer’ incident in the latest magnum opus Dasavathaaram was in fact brought from the life of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and film icon M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), Kamal Hassan revealed in a press conference in Kochi on Monday, while attending a promo his latest film in which he enacted ten roles. "It was not just a fabricated tale. When MGR was shot in the neck, it was feared that it would affect his vocal chords," he said.

"I had narrated this story to a director before narrating it to K.S. Ravikumar, the maker of Dasavathaaram. The former had said it would not work, but Ravikumar, who heard the idea over telephone, told me instantaneously that it would be a hit. I have worked two years on the movie,” the actor further said, adding that his beard is for his next film Marmayogi. “Marmayogi is being shot digitally with technicians from abroad."

Kajol in Kamal’s next?

After Dasavatharam, what's next on Kamal Haasan's menu? The actor has started pre-production work on his new film Marmayogi, which he is directing and producing.

It is a big budget extravaganza and he is talking to a few corporates to fund the project. Marmayogi is said to be a historical adventure romantic film with an 'A' list of actors. Kamal is trying to rope in a Bollywood actress and the buzz is that Kajol has been sounded about it.

The film will have music by AR Rahman. The rest of the cast and crew are being worked out. It will be the second time that Kamal is using an old MGR title for a film of his. Earlier, he had used the title Sathi Leelavathi (1936), and now the famous MGR starrer Marmayogi (1951). It has tremendous title value, and the modern Kamal film will have three versions in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

Gearing up for ‘Marmayogi’ is Kamal

Kamal Haasan's ‘Dasavatharam’ is ready for release. The magnum opus is sure to bring laurels to Kamal.

Meanwhile, the actor has reportedly completed penning the story and script for his next venture ‘Marmayogi’, which is enacted and directed by Kamal Haasan himself.

Plans are on to commence shooting very soon, says sources close to Kamal Haasan.


The movie shares its title with a MGR blockbuster and is set in the seventh century. A war between two dynasties results in the survival of a child as the sole heir of a clan.

Kamal rescues the child and imparts him wisdom. He also makes him to revive the past glory. Hema Malini dons a negative role in the movie.

Kamal's 'Marmayogi'

Well, he just cant rest. Can he? Even before his magnum opus 'Dasavadharam' is released Kamalhaasan is said to have started pre-production activities for his next 'Marmayogi'. The Film being made in a budget of 120 cr is a multi-lingual releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Asin is roped in as the heroine of the film. The film is said to be based on a 7th century incident . film.

This is not the first time Kamal is using M G R's film title. Marma Yogi is also an old MGR flick, known as the first Tamil movie to receive an 'A' certificate in 1951. Kamal has earlier used M G R film's title 'Sathi Leelavathi'.

Walt Disney Pictures and Baratbala Productions jointly produce this mega venture. A R Rahman scores the music.

Kamal Haasan to join forces with Disney for Marma Yogi

Tamil actor Kamal Haasan will now join forces with the Walt Disney Productions, who are slated to produce his forthcoming film Marma Yogi (Mysterious Saint).

Walt Disney Productions, which recently tied up with Yash Raj Films for a full-length animated feature called Roadside Romeo, wanted to expand its operations across the country.

According to sources, this spectacle will be co-produced by Bharath Bala, who was responsible for Vande Mataram, the first patriotic music video by A. R. Rahman. The new collaboration will also see Kamal Haasan and A. R. Rahman coming together after a long gap.

The film, which is said to be directed by Kamal Haasan will be his fourth directorial venture. It is a period drama, set in the seventh century, which will also feature him in the lead role. Hema Malini, who worked with Kamal in Hey Ram and Asin, and who is casted opposite him in Dasavadharam, has been roped in to play key role.

Co-incidentally, Marma Yogi is the title of one of MGR's legendary blockbusters, which is known to be the first Tamil film to receive an 'A' certificate at the time of its release in 1951. This is the second time that Kamal has adopted the title of an MGR film (after Sathi Leelavathi of 1936). The new film, which is touted to be the most expensive Tamil film, has an astronomical budget of Rs 90 crore.

Kamal will shortly go to the US to discuss the production of this film, which is slated to be shot in Thailand and the actor plans to start shooting for this film in February.
