“Due to some urgent commitment, I could not make it for the function. I must thank Screen and also the Almighty Mani Ratnam. Gulzarsaab wrote some wonderful lyrics. As usual, we had recorded more songs, finally narrowing them down to what I guess turned out to be the best. The first song I recorded was Mayya mayya - I was coming back from my Haj when I heard some people say that word, as Mayya stands for water, and told Gulzarsaab that it was a nice phrase and he liked it too.”-A.R.
