What was your favourite topic for Facebook statuses this year? For most Indians, it was the Commonwealth Games, followed by the football World Cup.
The online social network has announced the top status messages across the world in 2010, and while HMU, or “Hit me up” emerged the most commonly used phrase in status updates across the globe, it was the Commonwealth Games that topped the list of status trends in India.
The football World Cup was the second most talked about among Indian users, while the site’s IM service ‘Chit Chat’ came third and ‘cancer’, fourth. These were followed by the films Endhiran and Raajneeti in the fifth and sixth spot, and CWG supremo Suresh Kalmadi stood seventh for all the news he made. Chennai Super Kings took the eighth spot, followed by Endhiran star, Rajinikanth in the ninth position and the songTere Liye from the movie Prince, in the tenth.
“The results reflect the highs and lows of world events that started a global conversation, new uses of language online and the sharing of popular culture,” said a statement issued by the website.
