AR Rahman and his music are very special: Gautham Menon

After his Oscar-winning turn in Slumdog Millionaire (2008), AR Rahman had become choosy with his Bollywood projects.

But after rocking the charts with Rockstar, the maestro is back with another melodious soundtrack for Ek Deewana Tha. He had also composed music for filmmaker GauthamMenon’s 2010 Tamil hit, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa of which Ek Deewana Tha is a remake. The Hindi version stars Prateik and British model-actor Amy Jackson.

“Ek Deewana Tha is a special film since it reunites him with Gautham Menon. Their relationship and films have always been special,” says a team member of Rahman’s entourage.

It’s further disclosed that what Rahman has created for Ek Deewana Tha is very different from Rockstar. “It’s very melodious and carries the AR stamp,” says the team member.

Interestingly though, the promos of Ek Deewana Tha were apparently delayed because the super-busy composer couldn’t finish its promo on time. Reportedly, they were to be attached to Rockstar’s release, but Rahman was busy with other projects at that time.

“Gautham is unperturbed as he is aware that Rahman needs space to create magical music. There is no point rushing him, he’s an international star,” adds the team member.

Imran Khan’s 2008 hit Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na was also reportedly delayed since Rahman couldn’t meet his deadline. When contacted, Vijay Singh of Fox Star Studios — co-producer of the film — says, “The music of Ek Deewana Tha is very different from Rockstar. And yes, there have been reports of the theatrical being delayed, but it’s worth the wait. Rahman and his music are very special.”
