Prabhu on cloud nine

Veteran actor Prabhu is on cloud nine because of two reasons. The actor, who played the lead role in over 100 films, settled down to play character roles. He played the prominent roles with ease in ‘Unakkum Enakkum’ and ‘Billa’.
Now the latest buzz doing rounds in Kollywood is that Prabhu would play a prominent role in Mani Rathnam's movie, tentatively titled as ‘Ashokavanam’. The movie is reportedly based on the epic Ramayanana. Prabhu had last acted in 'Anjali', directed by Mani Ratnam.
Also another talk is that Prabhu has been assigned to act in 'Endhiran', directed by Shankar. He plays a prominent role alongside Rajinikanth in the movie. The duo was last seen together in 'Kuselan'.
The path seems to be all green for Prabhu.

Bollywood in awe of Murugadoss

Bollywood is amazed at the professionalism of director Murugadoss, who directed Aamir Khan and Asin in the Hindi version of Ghajini. The film was completed promptly in the stated time and within Rs. 30 crores, which is Rs. 10 crores less than the allocated budget! This, coupled with Aamir Khan’s appreciation of Murugadoss’s directorial skills, has made Murugadoss quite famous in Bollywood. All the leading heroes, including Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, badly want to get their films directed by him, meaning that Murugadoss is now in great demand in Bollywood. Producers and stars of Bollywood are even ready to pay him 7 to 8 crores!
But for Murugadoss, home is where his heart is. He is firm in his stand that he will get back to Bollywood only after directing a couple of Tamil films. The buzz in Kollywood is that he might direct Suriya, who had expressed a desire long ago that he is very eager to work with Murugadoss. This fabulous director is also said to have received a similar request from Vishal.
Hitherto, only heroines from the South planted their flags in Bollywood and the act was emulated only by few cameramen like Ravi K. Chandran and Manikandan, who are in great demand in Bollywood these days. Actors like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan dabbled with acting in Hindi films now and then, but did not make an impact as strong as they did in South. Even stalwarts like K. Balachander and Bhagyaraj, though recognized for their work, failed to rivet Bollywood’s attention like Murugadoss has done. It looks like Bollywood will be eternally enamoured with Murugadoss.

Ghai, Eros sell Yuvvraaj's India theatrical to Ashtavinayak

Producer - director Subhash Ghai and Eros Entertainment have sold the all India theatrical rights of Yuvvraaj to Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision.

When contacted by Businessofcinema.com, Eros Entertainment president Sunil Lulla denied the deal. "No such negotiations are on for Yuvvraaj," he said.

At the time of filing this story, Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision officials and Ghai's spokesperson remained unavailable for comment.

Sources inform Businessofcinema.com that the deal has been struck. If industry sources are to be believed, it is said that a major reason for this transaction can be attributed to the heavy losses incurred by Eros throughout the year due to the unsuccessful run of their films. This in turn has led the company to sell its forthcoming film Yuvvraaj. Ghai is said to have been in the forefront of this negotiation.

The amount of this deal for all India theatrical rights could not ascertained. Eros will distribute Yuvvraaj in the overseas territory.

Yuvvraaj was a part of the five year distribution deal that Ghai's Mukta Arts had struck with Eros in November last year. The India video rights are still with Mukta Arts and is not a part of the deal with Eros.

Before Yuvvraaj's release, Eros also has Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta starrer Heroes up for release on 24 October. "Currently, we are in the process of finalizing the release strategy for Heroes," Lulla said.

Yuvvraaj stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Boman Irani and Zayed Khan. It is slated for release on 21 November. Yuvvraaj is directed by Ghai and has music by A R Rahman.

Rahman's YUVVRAAJ sounds like a winner

If initial sound of YUVVRAAJ is any indication, Subhash Ghai, A.R. Rahman and Gulzar have a winner in hands. The teasers of this yet another magnum opus from Ghai are out and so far, reactions from all around have been positive all the way.

Though one is yet to hear the words in the song, just the sound of piano playing in the background with some well etched frames featuring the quartet of Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Zayeed Khan are collectively good enough to promise a lot in the offering. Add to that a lavish look of the film and one can almost sense a TAAL round the corner.

Years back Ghai and Rahman had created magic with TAAL which finds itself amongst one of the all time great soundtracks. Though Rahman (along with Ismail Darbar) did come up with a very good soundtrack in KISNA as well, it went largely unnoticed. Now with YUVVRAAJ, Ghai is back with Rahman and one expects nothing but magic from the showman and the maestro!

Stay tuned as the film's audio is expected to arrive around the middle of October.

Big B’s Alladin postoponed due to Aamir’s Ghajini?

It is said that when Amitabh Bachchan enters the scene everyone in the industry makes way for him. But not this time! The release of Big B starrer Alladin has been delayed and the reason cited is Aamir Khan’s Ghajini.
AB plays the role of a genie in Sujoy ghosh’s Alladin and it is said that the film aims at children. The shooting of the film has also been complete and they were planning to release the film in Christmas which is the right time for the target audience. But ever since Aamir Khan rescheduled the release date of his film Ghajini because of his illness the makers of Alladin has no choice but to delay the release to February.
However Sujoy has a different version to narrate. “Mr. Bachchan has no competition and we are not worried. We are yet to finish a promotional song with Mr. Bachchan and since he was busy with The Unforgettables we could not manage to do so.  The film also targets the kids and we needed an appropriate release. We had to reschedule the shooting dates and hence the delay.”

Gulzar: YUVVRAAJ music is magnificient!

view YUVVRAAJ movie stills

Whenever music wizard A.R.Rahman and iconic lyricist Gulzaar have come together they have always weaved magic. Right from Shah Rukh Khan's "Chaiyyan Chaiyyan" (DIL SE) to Aishwarya–Abhishek's "Tere Bina" (GURU), the duo has successfully serenaded the audience with some superb and soulful compositions. And of course things can get only better as they are now coming together in YUVVRAAJ for ex–showman, Subhash Ghai, a director who is very passionate about music.

With the first teaser of Ghai's magnum opus, YUVVRAAJ, carrying the hauntingly beautiful signature piano tune, a trademark Rahman (out on every channel) the curiosity and expectancy levels have only increased.

The stamp of approval for YUVVRAAJ's musical score comes from none other than the great lyricist Gulzaar himself. As per Gulzaar Sahab, the songs of YUVVRAAJ are 'magnificent' but he is quick to add that he is not saying this because he is the lyricist of the film. He gives all the credit to the director, Subhash Ghai and the music director, A.R. Rahman.

In fact, Gulzaar recently saw the songs of the film and was of the view that this is one of Rahman's best works till date. He further added that Subhash Ghai has picturised the songs beautifully. And that is because he is so involved with the music that very few can match up to his level.

The brand ambassador of Longines, a Swiss watch brand, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her gracious presence felt in their Gurgoan boutique during its inaugural ceremony. Speaking to the media after declaring open the showroom, Ash said that before Endhiran’s shoot commence she was required to brush up her Tamil so that she
Aishwarya Rai
can pronounce the words correctly. It may be recalled that her last Tamil film was released more than a decade ago. She also declared that Rajini is a brilliant actor.

Mani's initial shooting suffers hiccups!

Mani Ratnam's Raavan seems to have secretly kick started already. Shooting is underway in the lushly backwaters of Chalakkudi in God's own country, Kerala. Mani shot Prithviraj and Vikram for a few significant scenes.

However, the shooting wasn't devoid of any hiccups, we hear. Mani and
Mani Ratnam
the crew had to wait for a couple of hours until the production incharge mobilized 50 boats required for the shooting. The crew is now camped in Kerala for the first leg of the shoot schedules and further shooting is in progress.

Vikram plays the antagonist, a role inspired by the mythological Hindu character Ravana – where Mani also derived his title.

Mani Ratnam’s Production no: 11

It’s well-known that Mani Ratnam directs a bilingual flick in Hindi and Tamil for his production house Madras talkies, which has its storyline based on the epic Ramayana. The film started rolling and the shoot progresses in the dense forests of Chalakudi. Abhishek would join the crew for the shoot by tomorrow, October 5th whereas Aishwarya would come to Chalakudi on October 8th.
Maniratnam titled his movie as ‘Ashokavanam’ for its Tamil version and ‘Ravana’ for its Hindi version. But now the Tamil title has been in mess as the name has been already registered in the film chamber by another popular director who would introduce his son to the filmdom through the film titled same as ‘Ashokavanam’.
However, the closer sources reveal that the ace director would finalize and announce the title of the film once the first schedule of the shoot gets completed and till then the film would be denoted as ‘Production no:11”.

Kamal to Trisha - All natural!

Trisha’s career is shaping up remarkably well with the actress lassoing in prestigious projects. For Diwali, Radha Mohan’s Abhiyum Naanum would be ready where Trisha is said to have had a very meaty role donning the hat of Prakash Raj’s daughter in the film. In Telugu she will be seen as Nagarjuna’s heroine in King.
Trisha

However Marma Yogi can be said to be her dream project where for the first time she will be seen sharing screen space with Kamal Haasan. Close circles aver that she is polishing her Tamil as she will be dubbing in her own voice for the film. Meanwhile as regards her make up in the film, Kamal has asked her to have as little makeup as possible as the film is a historical one and the beautiful lady has also conceded to his wish.

Vaiyapuri with Aishwarya Rai

Vaiyapuri , the comedian has been making his mark in the tinsel town with his unique manner in dialogue delivery and amusing style. He has figured in many films and has provided comic relief to the audience. But according to him, he has bagged the role to his heart’s content only recently.
Aishwarya Rai

The comedian has hit a jackpot of sorts by bagging two plum assignments - one with Kamal Hassan in Marma Yogi and the other project is the Mani Ratnam’s film Ashoka Vanam in which he has an important role with former Miss World Aishwarya Rai. Needless to say, Vaiyapuri is on cloud nine and cannot wait to start his work. To shoot some of the sequences with Aishwarya Rai, Vaiyapuri is currently in Chalakudi, Kerala.

3 idiots delay release of Ghajini

One such Lollapaloozas of perfectionism: Obviously, it's Aamir Khan who doesn't get convinced at an ease. Glimpse through his previous flicks; longer schedules of filming to get them perfectly spelled and Taare Zameen Par would be a precise illustration. Amole Gupta conceptualized the scintillating theme for the film and was assigned to direct. Catching view of canned shots for the first schedule, Aamir called off for Amole and started wielding megaphone by himself. Well, his plans didn't dash down hopes and perhaps has won him laurels across far-flung corners of the globe.
Well, after a special screening of Ghajini, Aamir had glimpsed certain aspects were to be corrected and insisted Director A.R. Murugadoss to reshoot them. Earlier, plans were to release the film for the occasion of Diwali while this rigid decision of Aamir may result in delayed release of Tamil remake with the same title. Murugadoss has planned to reshoot few scenes with accordance to Aamir's tastes. Nevertheless, it may take some time, since Aamir Khan is busy now shooting for 3 idiots with Kareena Kapoor. Buzzes are that it would take a month time for Aamir to get back for re-shooting.

Aamir to reshoot Ghajini

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is at it again, Mr Perfectionist who doesn't take things too lightly is apparently unhappy with his work in Ghajini.

And knowing his past record and urge for perfection, reports are that Aamir is likely to re-shoot some of the portions.

Ghajini, directed by A Murugadoss is complete and the director held a special screening for Aamir after which he has decided to re-shoot some bits. Aamir had gone for a complete new look for this film, which is a remake of Tamil film of the same name.

Murugadoss respecting Aamir's judgement has reportedly decided to re-shoot the suggested scenes. But this could delay the film's release as Aamir is currently busy shooting for 3 Idiots with Kareena Kapoor. So once he is free, which could take a month, then only will the actor be able to begin re-shooting.

DILLI 6 postponed

Though there was no official word on the release of Rakesh Mehra directed DILLI 6 throughout the year, there was speculation galore that the film would manage to arrive this year. A couple of months back, UTV did eventually come up with 23rd January as the D–day for the film's arrival. It was all official and all eyes were set on this Abhishek Bachchan starrer which was touted to be the one of biggest films of January 2009.

However, the latest development on the film is that it has been moved to the month of March. Though the final date on this is yet to be penciled in, one wonders if DILLI 6 would be further pushed to avoid the school/college exam season. Moreover UTV has three other projects already lined up for March – JOHNNY MASTANA, KISSAN and KAMINEY – and it would well be the case of too much too soon if DILLI 6 adds on to the list as well.

Looks like audience would have to wait for a little while before they get to see Abhishek Bachchan along with Sonam Kapoor on the big screen.
